Custom Hair Extensions · Mason, OH

Fullness and length, matched to your life

Luxury extensions chosen after a consultation, with the method, shade and upkeep planned around you.

Custom hair extensions add length, fullness or both using methods chosen for your hair and lifestyle. At Kim Harper Salon in Mason, Ohio, our Bellami certified extension specialists begin every guest with a consultation, then order custom hair before installation.

Hand tied weft extensions blended into blonde hair

Extensions built around your hair, not a kit

We offer several methods, including tape ins, wefts (hand tied wefts and K tips), custom toppers and other alternative solutions. No single method suits everyone. Your stylist helps you choose based on the look you want, how you wear your hair day to day and what you are comfortable maintaining.

Many people assume extensions are only about length. In practice, fullness is just as common, especially for fine or thinning hair. Hormonal changes, medications and stress can all change how hair behaves, and a well placed set can restore body that is hard to get any other way.

We want to be clear about one thing. Extensions are not a treatment for hair loss, and not every guest is a candidate. Part of the consultation is an honest look at whether your hair can carry the method you are considering.

Because the hair is custom selected and ordered ahead of time, this is not a same day service. That preparation is what lets the color blend into your own, so the result looks like it grew there. A custom color visit may be suggested first if your shade needs adjusting.

Book Your Appointment
  • Consultation first

Consultation is required. Your stylist reviews your hair, your goals and your routine, then recommends a method. You also hear what is realistic for length or fullness on your hair.

  • Custom hair ordered

After the consultation, your hair is selected and ordered to match your shade and texture. Installation is booked once it arrives, so the match is considered rather than rushed.

  • Method by method

Tape ins sit flat and sectioned. Hand tied wefts and K tips suit other hair types and goals. Toppers add crown fullness. Your stylist explains the tradeoffs of each.

  • Upkeep plan

You leave knowing how to wash, brush and sleep on your extensions. Maintenance visits are recommended every 6 to 8 weeks, and your stylist explains what each visit involves.

What does the consultation cover?

The consultation is where the real work happens. Your stylist covers the method that fits, the length or fullness that is realistic for your hair, the investment, how often you will need maintenance and how to care for the hair at home.

Bring photos, and be candid about your routine. If you swim often, wear your hair up daily or rarely use heat tools, say so. Those habits steer the choice between tape ins, wefts and a topper far more than any brochure can.

You will also talk about shade. Your stylist may match to your current color or suggest adjusting it, perhaps with a gloss or toner, so the blend looks even once installed.

How do I care for extensions at home?

Treat extensions gently and they reward you. Brush from the ends upward with a suitable brush, avoid applying conditioner near the attachment points and let your hair dry fully before bed. Your stylist will give you product guidance from the lines we carry, such as Redken, Wella, Keune and Kevin Murphy.

Plan on maintenance every 6 to 8 weeks. As your own hair grows, the placement shifts, and regular visits keep everything comfortable and looking natural. Skipping these appointments is the most common reason extensions start to feel heavy or look uneven.

A signature blow out is a lovely way to finish a visit and get used to styling your new hair.

Who should think twice about extensions?

Extensions are not for everyone, and we would rather tell you early. If your hair is very fragile, or your scalp is sensitive, a method may not be a safe match. If you want a treatment for hair loss, extensions are not that, and we will not pretend otherwise.

They also ask for commitment. You will need regular upkeep visits and a gentler home routine, and some guests find that is more than they want to take on. A custom topper or a different service, such as a conditioning treatment, may suit you better.

The consultation is free of pressure. We would sooner help you decide against extensions than place a set that will not work for your hair.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to have a consultation?

Yes. Consultation is required for extensions. Your stylist helps choose the method by looking at your hair, your lifestyle and your goals. It is also when custom hair is chosen and ordered, so you cannot skip it and arrive for installation the same day.

Which extension method is best for me?

It depends. We work with tape ins, hand tied wefts, K tips, custom toppers and alternative solutions. Fine hair, thick hair, a busy routine and your goals for length or fullness all play a part. Your stylist makes a recommendation after seeing your hair in person.

Will extensions help thin hair?

Often they add welcome fullness for fine or thinning hair, including changes linked to hormones, medications or stress. They are not a treatment for hair loss, though, and not every guest is a candidate. Your stylist will give you an honest answer at the consultation.

How often do extensions need maintenance?

We recommend returning every 6 to 8 weeks. Maintenance keeps the placement comfortable as your own hair grows and helps the extensions look natural. Your stylist will explain exactly what each visit involves, so you can plan your calendar well ahead.
